Who is Yuma?

Yuma was born in Havana, Cuba. 💃

As my sailing journey across the Atlantic was nearing its end, I realized that there was nothing waiting for me back home except for a sense of comfort and the reminder of "failures": in my job, relationship, and the New York lifestyle I had once dreamed of.

With my 30th birthday approaching, I made the decision to spend it in Cuba. What was initially intended to be a week-long trip, turned into a five-year-long adventure.

I fell in love with the natural entrepreneurial spirit of a nation forced by politics and geography to forge its own path into the 21st century. Neither trials nor tribulations faded the color of this culture. It fired up my soul. Art fills every inch of the city. There’s music in the underground clubs, the public squares and the way we say hello.

Yet there I was, again, the newcomer, the outsider. The foreigner. But Cuba gave it a name. Yuma, which means: “foreigner” or “stranger” in Cuban slang.

The term "foreign" often carries a negative connotation. As someone who has always felt like an outsider, regardless of where I am, I thought it was time for a rebrand.

I am Yuma. You are Yuma. I believe you can feel at home, wherever you go with Yuma Travel.

Where will your story begin? 💫
